Ensuring Your Little One Never Fears the Dentist

Childhood is filled with lots of new experiences, one of which is that very first dental visit. Your child’s perception of dentistry is shaped by your actions because many parents who have had a negative experience of dental care can inadvertently pass on these fears. The result can be a lifelong fear of visiting the dentist.

Why Regular Preventative Dentistry is Important

Here at Happy Rock Dental, we encourage parents to schedule their child’s first dental visit early on. The sooner a child sees the dentist for regular preventative care, the better because any early signs of disease are quickly detected and treated. It is also a great way to reduce dental anxieties because they will soon realise we aren’t scary! In fact, we go out of our way to help young children feel at ease and to hopefully enjoy their visit.

You can help to set a positive example for your child by brushing and flossing and visiting the dentist regularly. Talk about dental visits in a positive manner, gently explaining how a dentist helps people to enjoy a healthy smile. Children love to imitate their parents, so if they see you looking after your teeth, then they will learn to do so too.
