How to Freshen Up Your Winter Skin

If the winter has left your skin looking dingy, we’ve listed a few ways to help restore it to its radiant best.

  1. Eat plenty of antioxidant-rich foods such as peppers, tomatoes, beetroot and berries. Leafy green vegetables, orange and yellow peppers and eggs contain a substance called zeaxanthin, a carotenoid that protects skin cells from free radicals.
  2. Dark leafy vegetables like kale, swiss chard and spinach are rich in detoxifying chlorophyll. They also contain plenty of vitamins and minerals which are great for skin.
  3. Green tea supports antioxidant defence, while teas such as cranberry, nettle and ginger help to support liver and kidney function, digestion, and they stimulate circulation, so toxins are removed more quickly.
  4. Exfoliating regularly removes dead skin cells and encourages younger, fresher skin to emerge.
  5. Exercising increases your heart rate and gets you sweating, helping to cleanse toxins from your body. Saunas or steam rooms are also good.
  6. Take time to relax in a detoxifying bath with a cup of Epsom salts and calming essential oils like lavender.
