Overcoming Teeth Grinding Habits

Teeth grinding and clenching, a condition called bruxism, is a common sleep disorder that may be due to stress or certain medications. It can be extremely destructive, damaging teeth and the gum and bone around them, and it can place considerable stress on the jaw joints, called temporomandibular joints. Symptoms of bruxism include increased tooth sensitivity to hot and cold, waking up with a sore, aching jaw, or waking with a headache or even earache.

If you recognise any of these symptoms or have noticed your teeth look worn or chipped, please come and see us here at Happy Rock Dental. We can gently examine your teeth and jaws and will suggest the most suitable treatments to correct this problem. Usually bruxism is effectively treated with a custom-made night guard to be worn during sleep. This will prevent further damage to your teeth and jaws. Restorative treatments can repair damaged teeth, rebuilding teeth to their original size and shape while protecting them against infection and decay.
