International Women’s Day – The Evolution of Women in the Dental Industry

Just recently, we celebrated International Women’s Day, and we thought it would be interesting to look at how the face of dentistry has changed over the past few decades as more women choose a career in the dental industry. Certainly, when you come to see us here at Happy Rock Dental, it’s quite likely you will see one of our talented female dentists who have discovered that dentistry can be an enriching and rewarding career. Our entire team love nothing more than when our patients leave with healthy smiles, and there is no better feeling than helping someone else.

Women dentists bring something different to the table because they tend to be naturally more caring and often have a very gentle touch. Sometimes patients find it easier to talk to a woman dentist and to discuss issues such as dental fears and anxiety because women can more easily demonstrate empathy. They tend to seem less rushed and are more willing to spend their time talking with patients to discover how best to help them. Also, dentistry is a career where artistry is often blended with science, for example, during complex smile makeovers and full mouth reconstruction that often require advanced techniques. Although dentistry is usually a very challenging career choice, many women successfully combine it with family life, achieving an excellent work-life balance.
