Recovering from Sugar Craze: How to Clean off the Sweet

We’ve all been there when only something sweet will satisfy that craving. However, there are some things you can do to control these urges and to reduce the damage to your pearly whites.

Have a Healthy Breakfast

When you have a healthy breakfast, it can set the tone for the entire day. Choose foods that are high in fibre, and that contain good carbs and protein and which will keep you satiated for longer. A good example is poached eggs on wholegrain toast with avocado.

Use Sweet Spices

Some spices, especially cinnamon, can satisfy sugar cravings, and cinnamon helps control blood glucose levels. Try cinnamon in porridge or sprinkled onto apples. Other spices that are helpful include fenugreek, cloves and ginseng.

Eat More Veggies

Because veggies contain lots of vitamins and fiber, they can help you feel fuller for longer. The fiber also helps to maintain blood sugar levels. Sweeter vegetables like carrots or sliced red pepper make good snacks between meals.

Clean Your Teeth

A lot of the time, people eat out of boredom, so try doing something to distract you, such as taking a walk or another activity. Alternatively, try brushing your teeth as eating sweet foods afterwards would clash with the taste of toothpaste.

When you do have something sweet, make sure you brush and floss your teeth thoroughly afterwards.
