Six Dental Tips for Keeping Your Teeth Happy This Easter

Families everywhere will be celebrating Easter, and we have some tips to help protect your family’s dental health and help you navigate this sugary celebration.

  1. Have a Healthy Breakfast

Eat a healthy breakfast that includes tooth-friendly foods like Greek yoghurt, eggs and protein, and avoid sugary cereals and fruit juice.

  1. Wait Before Brushing

When you eat anything sugary, it feeds bacteria in your mouth that produce acids. These acids weaken tooth enamel, and repeated exposure to acids eventually causes cavities. After a sweet treat, make sure you wait at least half an hour before brushing your teeth so the acid in your mouth can begin to neutralise and damage to tooth enamel is lessened.

  1. Enjoy Treats at Mealtimes

Enjoy your Easter chocolate at mealtimes rather than in between because your mouth produces more saliva that helps fight acids and bacteria.

  1. Choose Chocolate

Chocolate is the best sweet treat to enjoy because it dissolves more easily than sticky or chewy treats and is washed away more quickly by saliva.

  1. Choose Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is even healthier as it is lower in sugar and contains useful antioxidants.

  1. Get Baking

When you bake your own treats, you can control the amount of sugar in them more easily or use sugar substitutes.
